Andrew took over Entertainment Weekly’s Twitter account on Friday for an exclusive #AskAndrew fan chat. You can find the entire transcript below!
@SolidSnake1287: Did you read any specific comic book to help you play Spidey?
Andrew: I’ve been immersed in all things Spidey since I wore my first Halloween costume aged 3. I drew physical inspiration from the art in the Ultimates, and the Torment Saga may be my favorites.
@Cam_Olds: When you see yourself in the suit on screen during an action scene, how do you feel?
Andrew: Free. Because it’s no longer me. It’s not about me at that point. It’s about the symbol of spiderman. I get to honor that greater symbol. I shed myself.
@BubblyGrace68: How long does it take you to put on the Spider-Man suit?
Andrew: 10 mins. I’ve got it down to a science.
@Madd_Thinker: Peter Parker has his flaws, but no super-person is perfect. What’s the hardest part about playing Spidey?
Andrew: I love how flawed and human peter/spiderman is. My heroes have to be imperfect. Because I am I think peter is weighed down by the pressure to be the perfect hero. I’m weighed down by trying to be the perfect spidey. Neither is possible because we are both imperfect people. This reassures me.
@spideypromise: What’s the easiest and the hardest thing about playing Spider-Man/Peter?
Andrew: The easiest thing is to show up with passion and love for the character. And the hardest thing is letting a scene go. I always feel I could do more. Try it differently. Go deeper.
@lilycooper23: Did you get to take home a souvenir from the set after filming?
Andrew: I may have one of the spiderman suits in my luggage. Maybe.
@PoitraLee: What was your favorite scene to shoot?
Andrew: The scene they built a rotating room for. Where I’m trying get the spiderman suit off to no avail and I’m literally climbing the walls.
@21patrickdavis: Who is your favorite or most inspirational actor?
Andrew: Too many to chose from. Mark rylance. Daniel day Lewis. Gene wilder. Meryl Streep. Michael j fox. So many more.
@MiaJulianna2864: How much of the acrobatics is you? They look so fun.
Andrew: 70%. They ARE fun. It’s like an extended recess where you get to pretend you’re spiderman.
@Tom_Wright123: How did you react and feel when you found out that you landed the role of Spiderman?
Andrew: I was truly overwhelmed. It felt like some kind of cosmic explosion for me to be chosen to represent my childhood hero. Then I very quickly became terrified.
@GwenStacyParker: If you had the opportunity to play another character, who would it be?
Andrew: Harry Osborn, to see how the other half live.
@nxtom: Do you ever borrow the Spidey suit for some extra curricular activities?
Andrew: I know someone has been…I can’t say any more.
@Br0die_Man: What aspect of Peter and Spidey do you try to capture above all others?
Andrew: The balance between the playfulness, humor and joy of Spidey and the tortured, neurotic, existential confusion of being Peter.
