British-American Spiderman actor has asked how any person could argue against compassion and equality.
British-American actor Andrew Garfield has expressed his unwavering support for gay marriage, saying there is no argument against equality.
In an interview with The Times, the 29-year-old Amazing Spiderman actor said: ‘Of course I’m in favor of marriage equality. Same-sex couples should have the same rights as anybody else.
‘There is no argument against equality. How can anyone argue against compassion and understanding?’
Before taking up his first movie role in the 2007 production Lions for Lambs, Garfield had a number of roles in television and the theater.
In 2006, Garfield played a gay character in Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing, a play which documents the love between two teenage boys growing up on a council estate in Thamesmead, South East London.
Of the play, he says: ‘The simplicity of it is that it’s a profound, beautiful story of how love can transform you – gay, straight, bi, lesbian, whoever.’
Members of Parliament in the UK voted in favor of marriage equality on 5 February this year, passing the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill by a majority of 400 to 175.
A 20th anniversary adaptation of Jonathan Harvey’s Beautiful Thing is currently showing at The Arts Theatre, London until May 25th.
